Sightings for Sunday January 13th

Montreal, Botanical Gardens: I along with a whole bunch of photographers, spent a good hour photographing an adult Cooper's hawk (épervier de cooper). The bird was on a grassy patch of ground , under a conifer... between the Chinese garden and the Premieres Nations area, where the Carolina Wren has been seen. The Cooper's was standing upon what looked like a nice sized Rock Dove. It was eating at its own speed oblivious to the people who were only about 40 to 50feet away. A beautiful opportunity in excellent light for some fabulous captures! The immature Cooper's are always around in springtime... but the adults usually are seen high up in trees. To finish off a delightful morning.... We also had 2 European goldfinch (Chardonneret élégant)at the feeder in front of the big lion sculpture. This bird (finally) was a new lifer for me. - C. Kling - click on photo to enlarge
