Sightings for Sunday November 27th

Île Perrot: Peter, Chris Murphy and I stopped at the intersection of Anne Hébert and Perrot Boulevard on Île Perrot to scan the water. Thankfully there was a young boy (perhaps 5 years old, sitting on a bench with his grandparents) also observing the geese. Why thankfully, you ask? The little guy kindly pointed out a big white bird floating in toward the group of geese. A glance through the scope confirmed it as a Mute Swan (Cygne tuberculé). Apparently the swan has been observed here for all of November.

We offered binocular and scope views of the swan, although it was so close to shore that the naked eye had good looks too. Kudos to this young boy (perhaps a future BPQ member) and his grandparents for taking the time to get outside and observe the birds (and share their sightings). - Gay McDougall Gruner

Verdun, Ile des Soeurs: This morning, while guiding a field trip with COA, we observed a Snowy owl perched on rocks in the middle of the St Lawrence river. It was seen easily with a scope from the lookout. We also observed a Carolina wren and an Eastern screech owl in the woods along with more common species

Lors de la sortie du COA ce matin, à l'Ile des soeurs, nous avons eu le plaisir d'observer un harfang des neiges perché sur un ilôt rocheux au milieu du St Laurent. Il est observable depuis le belvédère avec un téléscope. Également observés dans le boisé un petit duc maculé et un troglodyte de Caroline, en plus des espèces habituelles - Frédéric Hareau

Beauport: 5 Snowy Owls at the baie de Beauport. All were perchered on the rocks emerging at low tide or on the rocky embankments along the Dufferin-Montmorency autoroute.

5 Harfangs des neiges dans la baie de Beauport. Tous étaient posés bas sur les roches émergentes à marée basse ou sur les remblais rocheux bordant l'autoroute Dufferin-Montmorency.

St. Petronilla: 2 Purple Sandpiper perched on the rocksat the end of boul. des Chutes and 1 other in flight, 2 Horned Grebes & 2 Red-necked Grebe in

2 Bécasseaux violets posés sur les roches au bout du boul. des Chutes et 1 autre en vol ; 2 Grèbes esclavons et 2 Grèbes jougris - Gaétan Lord

Saint-Barthélemy: Along with my wife Manon Mercury (because she has a keener eye than mine) we went to Saint-Barthélemy today and with happiness we saw 10 snowy owls. Most were at the center fields far but the last on rang St-Jacques gave us a beautiful gift. He was perched on the roof of a barn 100 feet away. Below is a picture my wife took with her new camera

En compagnie de ma conjointe Manon Mercure (parce qu'elle a l'œil plus vif que le mien) nous sommes allées à Saint-Barthélemy aujourd'hui et par bonheur nous avons vu 10 harfangs des neiges. La plupart était au centre des champs très loin mais le dernier sur le rang St-Jacques nous a fait un beau cadeau. Il était perché sur le toit d'une grange à 100 pieds de nous.
