Bird Protection Quebec "Field trip Report"

2013 Summer Series of Birding - Trip #2

Thanks to Mark Dennis for suggesting that we visit a spot that he frequently visits, the Ruisseau a Charette de Baie Brazeau in Pointe-Fortune, Quebec, close to the Ontario border. 17 people came out for the trip today with almost everyone visiting this site for the first time. It's a spot that doesn't appear to get a lot of attention but, after visiting it today, I'm quite sure that many of us will be returning at other times of the year. It consists of a long wooded, but easily walkable trail that eventually opens up into a very large marshy area, with an observation tower and a couple of constructed observation point/rest areas along the path.

In addition to this site, we also made stops at the Carillon Dam in Pointe-Fortune and then traveled along Grand-Montee Road heading south, along the Quebec/Ontario border with a final stop on ch. de la Fourche, west of Rigaud.

Our half-day outing produced a total of 67 species on a hot, sunny morning.  Here is our list for the day:
